UPDATE @ 7 NOVEMBER (11/11/2008)

MMF with Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/monacomediaforum

Socialmedian
http://mmf.socialmedian.com

MMF is excited to announce a special partnership with socialmedian (http/www.socialmedian.com) which will enable people from all over the world to follow and discuss your live reports from the Monaco Media Forum.  On Monday socialmedian launched http://mmf.socialmedian.com a website that will aggregate every Twitter tweet, Flickr photo, YouTube video, blog post, news story, and more from the conference.

You'll also be able to grab a widget to put reports from MMF on your own webpage.

Jason Goldberg, the founder and CEO of socialmedian, will be at MMF to demo the site and to get everyone setup at the start of the conference.

You can also see an example of a similar site socialmedian created with the Washington Post for the U.S. Elections at http://election.socialmedian.com.

To participate in mmf.socialmedian.com, all you need to do is:

1. On Monday, go to http://mmf.socialmedian.com and create your free account

2. Click the "Add Sites" link to connect your Twitter account, your blog, your Flickr account, your YouTube account, and other services you use to report.

3. At the conference, Tweet away using "#mmf" and participate in the discussion at http:/mmf.socialmedian.com

We hope you join in and help thousands of people around the world follow the Monaco Media Forum.

UPDATE @ 4 NOVEMBER (11/04/2008)

We've just had an offer too good to refuse from Jason Goldberg at socialmedian, who will develop a website, mmf.socialmedian.com, which will enable people not attending the MMF conference to follow all the activity (blog posts, twitter tweets, YouTube videos, etc.) from home, all in one place. The page will go live the week of the event--stay tuned.

UPDATE @ 1 OCTOBER (10/01/2008)

Double dose!

First, by popular demand, we're starting to take the wraps off what is without doubt the smartest, strongest Monaco program ever-see highlights below. Registered delegates or anyone still holding a 2008 invitation (and the clock is ticking, by the way) should watch their in-boxes for detailed updates.

Second, since we're also very aware that MMF's by-far best content happens offstage, look left for the latest selected list of who's coming this November--we hope you'll be as wowed as we are. Registered delegates can find a full list & more details by logging in above.

One more tidbit: our good friends at Google are laying on a special MMF 2008 YouTube Channel for all the main-stage speakers and panels. So if you can't make it down in November, please do plan on tuning in.

Salut!

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS/MMF 2008

Wednesday 12 November
Welcome cocktail & dinner on the terrace at the Monte-Carlo Bay, featuring great Left Coast vintages flown in by Accel Partners--"Le Defi Americain." Then a nightcap with Tina Brown, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, The Daily Beast.

Thursday 13 November
HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco welcomes, then straight into "New Waves: Live From the Front Lines--MMF's eye-popping demo showcase. Jeff Cole of USC's Center for the Digital Future presents "State of the Mediasphere 2008," along with MMF Co-Chairs Nikesh Arora, Maurice Levy & Niklas Zennstrom. Accel's Theresia Gouw Ranzetta leads a trans-Atlantic all-star squad of VCs & visionaries--"The Rise & Rise of Distributed Media."  "Mass Mobile "  heads to the BRICs for a look into the PC-free future, with Alvin Wang Graylin of minfo, Admob's Omar Hamoui, Alexandre Mars of PhoneValley & HANZO's Federico Pisani Massamormile. The morning finishes with "Content Sans Frontieres" planetary programming, with Ben Silverman of NBC and Endemol's Ynon Kreiz.

Afternoon starts with lunch Chez Vivendi, followed by five tracks of breakouts--content, technology, distribution, ad & marketing, finance. Back to the main tent for "Think Locally, Act Globally"--News Corp's James Murdoch, interviewed by Rich Greenfield of Pali Capital. We'll gaze into the eyes of the "The Two-Way Audience," then listen as Universal's Lucian Grainge & EMI Digital's Douglas Merrill face the music of the Internet Age. Finally it's off to the 19th century at the spectacular Hotel de Paris—cocktails, dinner & the 2008 Monaco Media Prize presentation.

Friday 14 November
Opening demos again, to wake the bleary-eyed. Then Google's Nikesh Arora marks the tenth birthday of the world's favorite search engine with a ten-year look down the Internet road ahead.  The digital ad jungle, online video circus, and Stanford Law School's Larry Lessig tossing grenades with "Whose Bits Are They?" Lunch is the CEA's Gary Shapiro on the power of hardware (and previewing January's global gear-fest in Las Vegas).  We'll look at targeted television ("The Empires Strikes Back") and handicap disruptive game-changers ("Black Swans"). Closing cocktails for the survivors back out on the Monte-Carlo Bay terrace, hosted by Publicis Groupe.

Voila! And hope to see you there.

MMF 2008/// UPDATE/19 SEPTEMBER (09/19/2008)

Eight weeks out & we've just passed the 300 headcount mark for registered delegates & speakers--almost there.

Here's the snapshot: More than half the group boast titles including chair, CEO or founder--half again more than the number of company heads last year, with late arrivals still to come.

In terms of sectors, we're tracking 2007 almost exactly: roughly equal parts technology, content, and ad/marketing, plus a slightly tranche of VCs, investment bankers, fund managers & PEs.

Geographically, more than 40 percent (140) list North American addresses, with only a few less (124) from Europe. In rough order, the Middle East, Russian Federation, China, India & Africa make up the rest.

Check the amazing company names below--registered delegates can see the full listings by logging in.

Next up: the agenda. We'll be playing off MMF's 2008 theme "Media Everywhere" with a pointed follow-up: "Who's building value?" Check back next week for details.

MMF 2008: THE BEGINNING IS NEAR (07/23/2008)

That's our big theme for November: for all the flood of digital astonishments, it's still barely dawn in the brave new media world. Computers in a every pocket. User-generated context. Tera-clouds of data and giga-bit video streams. Media simultaneously global and personal, free and expensive, deeply controlled and wildly democratic. Grasp those paradoxes, run out the trend lines, and fasten your seat belt.

For the long view, MMF 3.0 serves up our trademark team of big-picture co-chairs--returning veterans Maurice Levy of Publicis Groupe and News Corp's James Murdoch, joined for 2008 by Google EMEA chief Nikesh Arora, Vivendi's Jean-Bernard Levy, Riugang Li of Shanghai Media Group, NBCU's Ben Silverman and Joost's Nik Zennstrom. Click the photos at left for details.

Drill down and the feature set gets even richer. At the risk of stepping on toes, here're some more big guns: Robert Thomson of the Wall Street Journal. Mark Thompson of the BBC. David Kenny of Digitas, Real Networks' Rob Glaser and Chris De Wolfe from MySpace. There's the FT's Lionel Barber, Bloomberg's Norm Pearlstine, Jim Spanfeller of Forbes, CNBC's Zafar Siddiqi. From the money side, Accel Partners' Joe Schoendorf, Softbank's Eric Hippeau, Rich Greenfield of Pali Capital, Lehman's Makram Azar, Danny Rimer from Index. Serial builders and e-entrepreneurs. FON's Martin Varsavsky, Glam's Samir Arora, Loic Le Meur of Seesmic, Blinkx's Suranga Chandratillake, Rafat Ali of ContentNext and literally too many more to name (though watch this space). Plus wave-makers non-pareils - Denuo's Rishad Tobaccowala, EDventures' Esther Dyson, Randy Rothenberg of IAB. And MMF's real stars: 350 of the smartest, hottest, coolest technologists, content creators, managers, marketers and
bank-rollers who for three days every year make Monte Carlo the epicenter of global media.

MMF's tireless program director, Wired's Spencer Reiss, is spending his summer plotting a fiesta of high-energy questions and pointed ideas. Old media in new business models. Mobile platform wars. Automated marketing & portable data. Real-world gaming. Regulating privacy. Taste-making algorithms. Wither music's middlemen? How long will broadcast last? Can anything save newspapers?

The official invitations went out last week, to a mix of MMF veterans and compelling new players. If you're on the list, don't hang back--space is absolutely limited. If you're not and think you should be, feel free to write and tell us why--there's always next year.
